A different kind of To Do list

Image
I love making "to do" lists. There is nothing more satisfying than, one by one, crossing off the things that you've accomplished. Often, I'll even write down something that I've already done, just so that I can cross it off. Whatever, don't pretend you don't do it.  Recently, I've had some pretty extreme changes in my personal life that have reminded me of the importance of surrounding myself with kindness and positivity. That has reminded me how important that it is to try to be a positive force in the lives around me, too. I have subconsciously added some different items to my daily "to do" list.  Here are some things I try to do in my daily life:  Compliment a friend  Compliment a stranger  Show gratitude  Hold my tongue when what I might say is neither helpful or kind  Do something for somebody else without being asked  Smile at everyone I come into contact with  Ask somebody else about their day  Another big item on my "life" t...

Music Love: Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Same Love"

Image
Somehow, even though the YouTube video has apparently been up for five months, I only saw the music video for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Same Love" (featuring Mary Lambert) last night. I've heard the song before and was very touched by the message, and the music video is gorgeous. I've been married for just over two years, and I love it (a little less than usual this morning, as I had to wake up my sleepy husband five times before he would get out of bed and then he didn't even move the broken laundry room door like I asked so I could start the dryer, but whatever). I hate that there is even controversy and debate over whether or not two men or two women should be ALLOWED to get married. If two people love each other and care about each other and want to be there to take care of each other to the point where they want to make it official, to be married, I'm all for it, whether those two people both be men or both be women. Honestly, I don't feel lik...

Europe Trip 2012: Part 1: Paris

Image
I have been so excited to blog about my trip to Europe, but it seemed like such a daunting task. We were on vacation for 24 days total, and I'm sure you can imagine the amount of pictures that we took! Our trip started after work on October 19th. We got off early and a friend drove us down to the airport.  (side note: I love airports! I will sometimes plan trips with layovers when it would be just a little more expensive to fly direct so that I can see more airports. That much.) We took off from Seattle around 4:30 p.m. and showed up in Reykjavik, Iceland very early the next morning. Pillow that they gave us on the airplane. We flew IcelandAir to Europe. They were great!  The sun coming up over Iceland right before we landed.  I was very excited to get to Reykjavik because it was the very first country outside of the United States that I have ever been to! My dad was in the Coast Guard while I was growing up, so I have been very lucky to see almost all of MY...
